The National Community Development Association (NCDA) held their 51st Winter Conference in Washington D.C. on Friday, January 31, 2020. Pearl Street Commons was one of 5 winners nationally of the 2020 Audrey Nelson Community Development Award. This prestigious honor acknowledges communities that exemplify outstanding achievement in service to neighborhoods and lower-income residents through innovative and quality programmatic efforts improving lives throughout the United States.
Pearl Street Commons was constructed by Novak Construction, developed by Full Circle Communities and funded by McHenry County. This ground-up, 3-story affordable housing apartment complex consists of 25 one- and two-bedroom apartments targeted to persons with disabilities and veterans. It includes amenities such as a library, computer lab, community center, laundry room and outdoor recreation areas.
“Novak is proud to be a part of the work Full Circle Communities is able to accomplish for the low income and disabled communities which are often underrepresented and undervalued,” stated Jim Hempleman, Project Director. “We are pleased McHenry County received National Recognition and look forward to seeing how this project improves the quality of life for its residents.”
